I have been reading with increasing horror and helplessness the news of the election in Kenya and its aftermath.
I have never been to Kenya, but I’ve learned much about the country these past six years as I’ve served as one of New York Yearly Meeting’s representatives to the Friends United Meeting board. (Quakers are more concentrated in Kenya than anywhere else in the world.) I also met many Kenyan woman at the United Society of Friends Women International triennial in North Carolina three years ago. I’m not a very good singer, but somehow, miraculously, my voice inexplicably soared out of me when I sang hymns with them in Swahili, and that amazing memory is with me as I read the stories coming in with names of places that I recognize.
Here’s one of the stories.
I have friends from New England Yearly Meeting, James and Eden Grace and their young sons, Jesse and Isaiah, who are living in Kisumu, Kenya, working at FUM’s African Ministries office there. Kisumu is under curfew now, according to the New York Times, in an attempt to control the rioting there. Ben and Jody Richmond, whose hospitality I enjoyed many times at their home in Indiana, are serving an interim assignment at Friends Theological College in Tiriki, Kenya.
Here is part of the request for prayer that my colleague John Muhanji, head of FUM’s African Ministries Office, made on an FUM mailing list.
The country Kenya is now in chaos now and many people are dying and properties destroyed as a reaction to the announcement of the results. We are appealing for prayers that calmness may come to our country.
Peace and unity may prevail in our country. We are all safe wherever we are. Pray for Kenya!! Pray for Kenya!!!God bless

God bless All who are Praying for divine intervention upon this great nation at this time. Blessed Shimoneh 2008! Presently we are Mobilising A Major force as per the Prophetic Word on the Female Expression. The Set Time has Come!
We just wound up our 21 days of Prayer and fasting for the Church and Nation here at the East Gate. We do appreciate your prayers for us and this Nation at this time. I know you know the statistics over 350,000 displaced, Over 1000 killed, many maimed, houses property burnt etc however we are standing on the Prophetic Word declared over this Nation – A City of Refuge, The Centre of Grace and empowerment, A long distance endurance race finisher – who shall finish strong, The Favoured City in the Sun, A light house of the Gospel in Africa, etc. Kenya Must Be Saved! The Lord God Reigns. We shall not be moved!
We trust God will grant us Grace to reveal and exhibit His Grace and his fulness in our Nation. God revealed several things even before this ensued, yet as the Church we kept to our slumber. I am certain a Major Breakthrough is imminent. As the Hebrew word for Eight (Shimoneh) connotes – Oil, Fatness, Superabundance we are raising a shout over Kenya – LET THE OIL SPEAK!!! Let the New Beginning Shine Forth! We shall be anointed with Fresh Oil (Psalms 92:10) More Grace to you.
Shalom, Eirene. Thanks
Pastor Mwabili

Hello! I could have sworn I’ve been to this blog before but
after going through some of the posts I realized it’s new to
me. Anyhow, I’m certainly happy I came across it and I’ll be book-marking it and checking back regularly!
